EPFL started taking part in the IPT in 2011, sending two teams of highly-motivated students to the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.
Five years later, after two IPT editions sucessfully organised at EPFL, three participations in the final round and one victory in 2013, the Physics Section of EPFL decided to include the tournament preparation to its bachelor curses, acknowledging the importance of such a competition in the student’s formation.
Since fall 2016, students can have one of the three project of each Practical Work Course (TP3a and TP3b) replaced by the preparation to the tournament, no matter the results of the National Selection. They are also granted a room to work in and a supervisor to help. These students have to take part in the national selection and, if they win, can join the international competition.
